Established in 1982, ENVIRON is an international environmental and health sciences consultancy with more than 70 offices in 15 countries. Following a recent acquisition; Whitney was engaged to consolidate four office locations within the Chicagoland area into two offices. Both projects were run simultaneously, completed on a very tight design and construction schedule within budget.

In the Chicago Office, Whitney made use of existing conditions by working with a renowned building which engages the gentle arc of the Chicago River by presenting a long curved façade to the north. With a challenging 2:1 ratio of private offices to workstations and essentially a triangular site, Whitney wrapped the plan with perimeter offices and provided over 550’ of full glass storefronts. Thanks to the unobstructed site, this allowed the interior of the plan to be flooded with natural light and a view of the sky from every interior workstation.

The heart of the project was in reconnecting the experience of arrival at the office with the authenticity, comfort, and inspiration of the travel experiences A&K offers.  Layers of material and light in the reception area carefully displayed ancient artifacts in a tastefully understated manor, complimenting the corporate brand.
