Gordon Lodge

Gordon Lodge is a small hotel in Door County, Wisconsin, with 21 guest rooms. It was built in the early 1960’s. The new owners hired Whitney to restore the retro, modern look and feel of the original facility and update the guest rooms to accommodate the expectations of today’s guests. Whitney maintained and refurbished many of the existing design elements, such as the circular fire pit and the faux wood paneling. The paneling was stained a dark coffee color, and new glass tiles were added to the fire pit surround. Retro-style furniture was chosen for the lobby and upholstered in reproduction fabrics designed by Charles and Rae Eames.

The lobby reception desk was refurbished, and porthole-style windows were added behind to echo the circular patterns in the carpet. The guest rooms were updated with retro espresso finished furniture and neutral carpet and accent wall color. The bedding, upholstery and window treatment supported either the warm or cool color theme of the room. In addition, Whitney developed the exterior and interior 10,000 square foot ball room addition to an existing lodge. The custom fire place and hearth were built by local masons and iron work craftsmen. This addition has now become the wedding destination in Door County.
